Follow Before You Lead

Submitted by followdaleader91 on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 14:32.

If there is one thing I can say that I have learned over and over again is that excellent leaders are always the ones who are willing to follow. Throughout my time in HS when I was a camper many many years ago, well more like 3 years ago, learning to be a good follower is essential to the skills needed to be an effective leader. Have you ever met a leader who thinks they're all that? or who thinks they can do no wrong? These are leaders have not truly had the humbling experience of leading as a follower. Being a follower before you take on a leadership role is essential to what kind of leader you are when you are put at the head of a project. Followers can see first hand what leadership styles work and don't work without being the guinea pig themselves.

Filling My Own Shoes

I spent my entire sophomore year of high school wanting. I wanted to be in the top of my class. I wanted to be student council president. I wanted every day to just like summer leadership camp. I wanted to have a great group of friends that got together often. I wanted to be all state in cross country. I wanted to be on Link-Crew. The list went on and on.

Passion!...What Passion?

How do you be passionate about something? What occurs in a person’s life that makes them decide that they have come across something that they would pursue to the ends of the earth striving to bring to the forefront of the minds of so many people? What makes that thing become the most important thing in their life, and how, and when will that happen to me?
