Class Content
Course Description: 
This course explores the realities of being a school leader and the challenges involved. It provides a practical exploration of leadership skills and theories. Also included are studies of time management, goal setting, communication, organization, budgeting, school history, problem solving, personal interactions, and conflict resolution. Basic elements of service learning are explored and put into practice. Leadership course students include elected Student Senate and Class Council officers and Members At Large who are selected through an application process. Currently, there are two sections of the this course that meet 4th and 5th hour. Students enrolled complete school improvement, community service, charity and fundrasing projects as well as event planning. Academic course work, including presentations, text assignments, and group work are incorporated into the class. Students may take this class for up to two full school years.

It provides a practical exploration of leadership skills and theories. Also included are studies of time management, goal setting, communication, organization, budgeting, school history, problem solving, personal interactions, and conflict resolution. Basic elements of service learning are explored and put into practice. Advisor Expectations Our expectations are high and you must be very responsible, willing to get involved, and follow through on you commitments. Much of what we do requires a group effort and your cooperation is essential. We expect that you a great role model to your peers by demonstrating good behavior, balancing academics and extra-curricular activities, deal with conflict in positive and productive manner. You must act responsibly by completing assignments and projects in a timely manner, organizing materials and events effectively, and accepting fault and constructive criticism when necessary. We also expect that you follow the SHHS Leadership code of ethics and the SHHS Code of Conduct. We have a very busy and demanding year ahead of us. We will assist you when needed, but we will not carry out your responsibilities for you. You might be unsure of your leadership abilities at some point, but remember they are skills that must continually be practiced and improved. This year will very challenging, busy, and rewarding. You will get out of this class what you put into it. Special Projects: 
Senior Choice Awards: "Oscar" style show of presenting nominees and winners of the senior mock elections. Bovenshen Holiday Party: Party planned for the special needs school includes food, beverages, live music, pictures with Santa, face painting and fun. Bovenshen Holiday Food/Gift Baskets: Class creates approximately 12 holiday baskets for identified families in need with at least one student enrolled at the special needs school. Each basket is worth a minimum of $300.00 worth of food and gifts, some exceed the value of $500.00.
