Last week I spent a few hours at Penrickton Center for Blind Children. It was an enlightening and inspiring few hours! The Center is amazing - from the learning modalities to the color to the staff and children, it was certainly a lot to take in. Below are some pictures from my visit and I hope that you can gain a feel for what this Center does for children, their families and their futures!

Charity Comes Full Circle
One of the strong points of working with Alternatives in Motion this school year and in the past is that they work so well with local communities. If there is a need in your community - someone needs mobility assistance, they work closely with the school to fundraise and promote events. This is a wonderful way to raise money because the schools know where the money is going and they can see it firsthand. For us here on staff at MASC/MAHS, we've always worked with the Charity of the Year in a very different way. We facilitate the process between them and the member schools. This year, something happened that allowed us a unique interaction with our Charity of the Year, Alternatives in Motion. Below is a letter I wrote to the staff of Alternatives in Motion (AIM) today...
Laughter, Fun and an Injection of Motivation!
While there were only about 100 advisers there, the energy that circulated made it feel like twice as many! This past Thursday/Friday, January 24-25, we hosted advisers from around Michigan at the Annual State Advisers Conference in Mt. Pleasant. We kicked off the evening with Karen Dawson, who shared tales of humor and inspiration and provided advisers some much needed laughs and the reinforcement to keep doing what they're doing - leading student leaders. Who knew you could do so much with a paper plate!?!?
Camp Connections!
I was excited to meet up with some Level 2 students and staff from Camp '07 this past week at Avondale High School, and it was quite interesting to see where they are with their Passion to Action projects...
Exciting & New for 07-08
Every year lately brings excitement, new events and new ideas to explore. I hope that in your schools, you see that too!

"Good leaders develop through a never-ending process of self-study, education, training and experience." - Manual on military leadership
Dear Members,
It seems that as much as we try to stay ahead, there is always something new out there for us to explore! As students become more and more tied to technology and the internet gets more accessible to everyone, products, services and networking are everywhere! MASC & MAHS, under the guidance of MASSP's Executive Director, Jim Ballard, are moving into places we don't even know exist sometimes!
We have put ourselves out there on numerous sites, all to better communicate with YOU, our members! Students and adviser are utilizing these new technology sites, often called Web 2.0 for their high-interaction based programming. Our website will be getting yet ANOTHER makeover that will accommodate the needs of both advisers and students: information - FAST!
Some of the areas and websites you can find us on are:
Myspace
Facebook
del.icio.us
Cafepress
Cvent
and more to follow we're sure!
We hope you will utilize the sites and keep in contact with us. We want to provide resources at your fingertips and the internet seems to be the way to do it! It's apparently not going away anytime soon.
Enjoy your summer, stay in touch with us and our websites - they're constantly changing to meet your needs! If you're already thinking ahead to next year, download the membership form and get it in early.
In Leadership,
