Now that homecoming is starting to wind down for most schools, I would like to do a little debriefing!
as you all know, a homecoming theme can make or break the homecoming festivities. What themes have / have not worked for you? Why did they or didn't they work? What can you suggest to other schools planning on using this theme?

In Student Council and Honor Societies it is a must to communicate with the entire school. What are the best ways that you have figured out or that your school uses to do so?

With a larger council, how do you keep attendance numbers up? Lately we have had a lot of issues with sports conflicting with StuCo meetings. What is an effective way to keep members coming while also keeping moral up?

With all the festivities this fall, it may be the perfect time for your school to work towards the $1/student goal for the State Charity of the Year: Penrickton Center for Blind Children. How is your school raising the money? If you need any help or ideas, this is the place to get them! Also see the Hall of Ideas for more ideas.
In leadership,
CHRIS RETTICH

As you may or may not of known, our goal as a state this year is to raise money for the Penrickton Center for the Blind. The Board of Delegates has come up with a goal for this year, and that is for at least 100 member schools (hopefully more!) to raise $1 per student in their school. We want to raise as much money as possible. Remember, this site is here to be used as a networking tool between everyone involved in the association. Feel free to ask questions if you need ideas on what types of things to do for charity, or anything else. Good luck!

Hey Center 9...
FTI's are coming up soon and I just wanted to see who all is going. I personally will be at the Troy FTI's on October 31 as well as a couple of the Frankenmuth sessions. This is a great opportunity for first and second year members to get a grasp on everything and have fun doing so. If you are not yet planning on going, but your advisors about it! :) Hope to see you and your school there!
Your MAHS Center 9 Rep,
Chris Rettich

We are seeking to host an information and training workshop for administrators, staff and students, that focuses on how you can go "green" at your school. Ideally, we would love to use this as an opportunity to showcase a green school in Michigan and hold the conference right at your school. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Kadi at MASSP:
kadi@mymassp.com
We would like to hold the conference in November or December, during the week.

Our Student Leadership program has about 125 sport-style water bottles (good for sports teams or daily use) and about 70 red cinch sack backpacks from past conferences.
We would like to give them to a school/students IN NEED of these items - if you have students you know can benefit from these and the items will get put to use, please respond to this post or email me directly:

National Honor Societies always seem to struggle with eligibility. Whether it's the students that are just below the minimum GPA or students that fall short on the other three pillars. A more rarely thought of case is that of "part-time students". Whether the student is part time at the local high school and part time at the career center, or at the high school and local community college, or whichever unique combination you find, there is an answer, although in some situations, that answer is about as clear as mud!

In speaking with a school a few weeks ago, I found that their selection process was a bit off. Instead of using a Faculty Council for selection, the Faculty Council (FC) gave recommendations based on student forms, then the NHS Adviser selected the students that would be inducted. For schools that hold chapters with NHS/NJHS, this process is incorrect and the appropriate way to select members is spelled out in the National Constitution.

I am looking to share transportation to the Executive Forum in May. My district does not have enough buses to send and we would be willing to pay for some of the cost.
Please let me know at

Part of our process for us determining our e-board is an interview. We have students we've interview previously so we're searching for some other questions we can ask.

I am looking for a DJ for our prom advisers and for the 2008 Homecoming. Can you please give me a few names of people/companies that you have been satisfied with? Thanks for helping!

We would like to take our chapter to Cedar Point during the school day but our district says it's not educational so we cannot go.
