How do we calculate GPA for determining eligibility (i.e., candidate status) for our students?

The National Handbook provides a thorough explanation of this matter in the chapter on Selection Procedures.

Honor Society Bylaws

If your school has some well-developed Honor Society Chapter Bylaws, please share!

PLEASE NOTE: The Michigan Associations of Student Councils & Honor Societies do NOT verify that the bylaws below meet the standards of the National Honor/Junior Honor Society Constitution. Use these samples as GUIDES along with the NHS/NJHS Constitution and your own school's policies/procedures/constitution.

Our student council and honor society do things very differently. Can BOTH be members of MASC/MAHS?

YES! Both groups can be members. MASC and MAHS do not put requirements on their members for procedures and policies to follow. We ask only that our members provide leadership experiences for students, and that is what we are here to help with. Each school is so incredibly unique it would be impossible to ask them all to conform to strict guidelines. We provide the same leadership training for student councils that we do for honor societies. Whether you vote, select, nominate or volunteer, if you're involved in leadership you can be part of MASC/MAHS.
