2027 Award Deadline: January 20th
The MASC/MAHS Quilt Award recognizes member schools that take purposeful, student-led action to strengthen diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and unity within their school or community.
The award is inspired by the idea of a quilt: each square is unique, but together those individual pieces create something stronger, more meaningful, and more complete. In the same way, strong school communities are built when different perspectives, identities, experiences, and voices are valued and brought together.
Any student council, leadership class, honor society, student organization, or combination of groups may submit a project or program for consideration. Projects do not need to be original or large in scale. The focus is on thoughtful, well-organized efforts that create meaningful and lasting impact.
What We’re Looking For
Strong submissions should demonstrate:
- Meaningful student leadership and purposeful implementation
- A clear focus on inclusion, belonging, equity, or unity
- Efforts that remove barriers or expand opportunities for underserved students
- Actions that intentionally welcome and support people across different backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences
- Connections that build understanding and strengthen relationships among diverse groups
- A positive and lasting impact on the school or community
- Reflection on what students learned and how the work strengthened others
The selection committee is especially interested in projects that move beyond awareness and demonstrate tangible action toward creating a more welcoming, inclusive, and connected school community.
Recognition
The top three Quilt Award recipients will be recognized at the MASC/MAHS Student Leadership State Conference.
Award Rubric
Submission Examples: Unified Sports League, Student Unions, Alliance Clubs, Diversity Councils, Accessibility initiatives, Mental Health resourcing, Community Closets/ Pantries, Bridge Programs. (The spectrum is broad and not specific so don’t hesitate to submit anything that isn’t listed).
All MASC/MAHS Member Schools are allowed to SUBMIT ONE project for evaluation
