Michigan Student Leadership offers three statewide competitions that turn student ideas into action: Michigan Student Voice (a student keynote contest), Student Showcase (real projects and solutions), and Student Photovoice (storytelling through images). Together, they build public speaking, project design and execution, and advocacy; while giving students an authentic audience beyond their school. Participants leave with portfolio-worthy work recognized by principals, partners, and colleges; stronger confidence and teamwork; and tangible impact on school culture and community needs. Encourage your council to enter one or all and watch leaders in title become leaders in action.
Michigan Student Voice: Our most powerful presentations come from our very own student leaders. MSV provides a platform for students to create 3min “ted-talk” style keynote presentations and share their passion with thousands of students across the state. The top MSV presentations are voted on for the chance to present on the main stage at the State Conference!

Student Showcase Competition:
The SET SEG Foundation comes through for students yet again! We are excited to announce our Student Showcase program will now offer three $1,000 scholarships for the top overall winners! The state’s top Showcase presentations will compete at our State Conference for the honor to take home this prize. Student Photovoice
Photovoice is a powerful, youth-led storytelling method that uses photography and narrative to amplify student voice, highlight community strengths, uncover challenges, and inspire meaningful action. By combining images with written reflection, students become both artists and advocates – using their lens to spotlight what matters most to them.
Photovoice is more than just photography – it’s a leadership-building experience and a creative platform for civic engagement. In leadership education, it becomes a tool for students to:
- Practice critical observation of their school and community.
- Transform reflections into advocacy and actionable leadership.
- Build collaboration, creativity, and communication skills.
- Turn observations into real impact.
