Starting the Year!

Hi everyone! My name is Blake Prebay and I am your MASC/MAHS Student Board of Delegates President for the 2018-2019 school year! I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to help lead another amazing year of student leadership across Michigan and to work alongside so many inspiring leaders. I am currently a senior at Bloomfield Hills High School and this will be my second year on the Board of Delegates. It truly is an honor to be able to serve as your 2018-2019 President.

Our school’s council is getting underway with our work for the year and already preparing for homecoming as I’m sure many of you are as well! One idea to kick off the year and get your council, leadership class, or government ready for another great year is to begin with some team building exercises. I personally love the Tarp Flip activity as it really pushes students to become comfortable with the people around them and encourages communication and teamwork. MASC/MAHS provides multiple opportunities for leadership training to start the school year as well! Our student board of delegate facilitated Leadership Training Institutes begin in Mid-October and run through early-November. LTIs are a great opportunity to get new members of your organizations introduced to the world student leadership. Our student ran activities focus on group dynamics, communication techniques, team building, and other basic concepts to have your group starting new members off on the right foot. Ideal for those new in groups, student Board of Delegate members will design and present the information to students in an interactive and FUN manner that will not disappoint. More information about Leadership Training Institutes can be found here.

Later in the year, every school has the opportunity to present at our Regional Connect Conferences on something their organization does throughout the year to other student leaders at the conference. Select presentations will also be chosen from those who present at Regional Connect Conferences to have the opportunity to present at our Student State Conference in March which has had over 2,000 students in attendance each of the last two years! Regional Connect conferences bring together students from all across the state of Michigan to learn and grow from presentations that are completely student driven. Each year MASC/MAHS Michigan Student Leadership partners with host schools across the state to bring our location venues to life with unique themes, student networking, idea sharing sessions, keynotes speakers, leadership curricular activities and of course, student showcase presentations. More information about Regional Connect Conferences can be found here.

I implore you to encourage your students to attend as many events hosted by MASC/MAHS as possible. The summer camp offered is truly a life-changing experience and I cannot recommend it enough. I mention camp now because it is important to get students interested in it early so that they have the opportunity to plan their summer trips or work around their attendance at camp! More information regarding camp will become available as the year progresses, but it will all be available here.

Becoming involved with MASC/MAHS has been one of the most positive impacts on my high school experience and my life. I have learned more about myself as a leader and a person in the last two years than I would have ever thought possible. I am so thankful to have opportunities for me to help other leaders and further extend my ever growing passion for leadership! I am delighted to be your Board of Delegates President, and I welcome you to an amazing 2018-19 school year with MASC/MAHS!

Sincerely,

Blake Prebay
