With the holiday break coming to an end, we are all finding ourselves in different places in our lives. Some of us are excited to start our new journey at college whereas others of us are trying to push through to find motivation for our upcoming finals. It can seem like a lot is being thrown at you to do both in and out of school it is a busy time of year. Wherever you might find yourself it is important to keep in mind the idea of grit.
During this time of year I often times find it difficult to find motivation. It is important to keep in mind that what’s most important is not your never ending list of things to do but rather your mindset.
My sophomore year my Psychology teacher introduced me to the idea of a “growth mindset”. This idea completely changed my perspective. Growth mindset is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, it can be changed with your effort. It is important to keep in mind that this is a marathon not a sprint. The little things don’t define you, anything can change in a moments notice and I think it is always important to take a minute to zoom out and look at the bigger picture.
I think that although it might be hard to find motivation for the school year it is important to keep in mind the bigger picture. Grit is something that I think is important to keep us motivated that it doesn’t matter what you do but the way that you go about doing it; your mindset can change the outcome.
For me, this time of year is extremely stressful, however one thing that I find that helps to keep me focused is to celebrate the little things. Rather than stressing about the future and about what may or may not be, celebrating the little things reminds you to stay in the moment and help you realize to do the best you can now and worry about the results later.
